Romance Reading

For when you have a question about love.

Method

  1. Cut and shuffle the Clow Cards, making sure that they are lying face-down. Take the first card from the top of the deck and put it into position 1.
  2. Count 10 cards from the top of the remaining deck of cards and place the 10th card into position 2. Count another 10 cards from the top of the remaining deck and place the 10th card into position 3. Continue doing this for positions 4-6.
  3. The last remaining card of the deck is placed in position 7.

What each card in their respective positions means:

  1. The liked/loved person’s personality and true nature
  2. The liked/loved person and the questioner’s past
  3. The liked/loved person and the questioner’s present
  4. The liked/loved person and the questioner’s future
  5. The problem you must overcome in order to get along well with the liked/loved person
  6. The result of the liked/loved person and the questioner’s romance
  7. Advice for a good relationship

Example

Questioner

A primary school student named S started to like H, who went to the same cram school. S wants to become good friends with H, and after six months says “Let’s go play somewhere.” H refused the invitation without any hesitation. S’s feelings toward H have not changed, however. How may S make friends with H…?

Reading

H may have been hurt from having liked a girl before. THE MAZE in position 1 (true nature) represents confusion and loss of confidence. H may be scared when making friends with girls.

S and H’s past is represented by THE SILENT in position 2. It seems that the timing of S’s invitation to H was just a little too early.

The current situation is represented by THE SONG–meaning harmony–in position 3.

The problem that must be overcome is shown by THE ERASE in position 5–warning S to wait. Because of the warning THE ERASE gives, it would be better to still associate as just cram school classmates for now.

THE FLY in position 4 (future) and THE FLOAT in position 6 (result) show that luck is strengthened and that the relationship can be free from every trouble and restraint. Particularly read from THE FLY, H is aware of the appeal of friendship and being carefree.

The advice for a good relationship with H (position 7) is represented by THE RETURN, meaning consolation. A chance for S to introduce her feelings again will come someday.

Great job, im takeing a break for the weekend, and cause im just so busy. but by monday i should be back to translateing the cards.

But today was not a good day for me so I may be takeing a longer break, tho probably not cause i need a distraction.

Once again Thanks ness for the next reading method and i wish you luck with the rest and i will resume my work ASAP

Great Job to both of you! It’s great that both of you are taking the time to translate the book. I can’t wait to see the final results. I think that I noticed a few tiny errors though, not to be rude. Am I mistaken or shouldn’t the Maze be in the first position in the romance reading instead of the Mist? Other than that though, you both are doing a tremendous job!

  3. Ness says:

Thanks for the mistake catching, Chris! It’s been corrected. ^^ I was tired when I was trying to read the itty-bitty furigana that accompanied the big Kanji card name. XD

No worries Kokuei, take your time. This kind of work is really draining.

Hi, I just recently got my own deck of clow cards (not the super fancy Kodansha deck but nice nonetheless) and it had it’s own little pamphlet on how to use the cards for divination, I’m not sure if the card layout in the pamphlet is one of the ones in your book so I thought I’d just post a scan of the specific page and hey if it’s in your book, great! I’ll see a translation when you get to it, if not maybe you could add it to the queue?

I’ve put the scan on my photobucket here:

Thank you so much for doing this translation!

Thanks for doing such an awesome job translating, Ness and Kokuei!

  6. Kokuei says:

No thats not one of the layouts in our book. But hey if you can make that picture bigger and still keep it clear. maybe i could get a free moment and translate it for you.

  7. Ness says:

Ciaran, you must have the Original Japanese Clow Set? Does that little pamphlet you have also come with a card meanings section? It would be interesting to compare them to the ones in this book. xD

  8. Ciaran says:

It does indeed come with a card meanings section. I’ll scan the rest of the pages and put them up in my photobucket and link them here for you.

  9. Kokuei says:

Wow i feel bad for not translateing in so long. but i just have so many things popping up i dont know how to make time for everything. BUt i will need to kick myself in the ass and get going either this weekend or on monday.

I WILL START AGAIN BY MONDAY!!!!!

*in his head* i hope. YES YOU WILL! …ok *in his head*

  10. Kokuei says:

Wow I would love to have a copy of that to compare. Too bad i dont.

    Kokuei
There are scans of the Clow Card Book Manual online that are great for translation.
    They are found at:

    http://aquantis.tripod.com/myccs.html

click on “large scans of the manual for download”(the 6th link down)

It maybe more difficult to translate them though as the book is written in Osakan Dialect, the same dialect that Kero-chan speaks, and i’m not sure how the online translators will interpret the dialect.

Hopefully this helps you if you choose to do it.

  12. Kokuei says:

Well Its late at the moment so i downloaded it and will take a look at it ASAP. But it might take a bit before i can get to translateing it. My duty to Nessa-Chan comes first

  13. Kokuei says:

Hey i couldnt take the wait so i checked it out real quick. Where it is a method of fortune telling the cards messages seem to be different. so i dunno how it will turn out. But once im done here with ness, i will start takeing a crack at that book for you.

I have a set of the Chinese Sakura Cards and I just tried the Romance Reading. From what I’ve read (according to this site’s translations and whatnot), everything about our past and present seemed to be right. I’m just having a small problem… The card in Position 1 that described my “true nature” was The Libra. I have no idea of what that means. Lol. Or what The Earthy (which was in Position 2 representing our past) is supposed to mean, but I’d really love to know what Libra means since it’s my true nature. Lol. I realize you guys aren’t finished with the translations of the card dictionary yet and I wanted to thank you for translating it. Before I found this site, I had no idea that there was an actual Fortune Book created by CLAMP. I would just like to get a quick sum up or idea of what The Libra might mean if you can find the time.
