So, are you intrigued yet?
Have I aroused your curiosity? Yes? Good. 
Alright… where to begin? Well, as you may already know, the fictional creator of the Clow Cards was a half-Chinese half-English magician named Clow Reed.
Now, the English occultist behind The Book of Thoth and the Thoth Tarot, is of course Aleister Crowley.
What I want you to pay close attention to is his last name, Crowley. Compare Crowley to Clow Reed (or kurou riido, romanized). The similarity is uncanny. XD
And there you have another instance of CLAMP putting in references to Tarot.
(Short article, I know. My laptop’s been sent in for repairs and I’m on this ancient desktop from hell until it’s fixed.)

You might be confused. “What is she talking about? Of course Sakura is a magician! The Clow Cards were passed down to her by the MAGICIAN Clow Reed. Duhr.”
If you are familiar with traditional Tarot cards, you may already have a good idea of what I’m talking about. I have just recently taken up studying Tarot again. Looking at the cover of the Fortune Book, I can now see some Tarot influences.
The image of Sakura below is clearly an allusion to The Magician card in traditional Tarot decks (such as the Rider-Waite, shown to your left).
Alright, let’s take a look at The Magician card. Here’s a quick list of what to look for symbol-wise in the image:
